The 2010 Geauga County Maple Festival
is dedicated to long time Board Member
and Treasurer

volunteering almost 40 years ....

CHARLINE HEIDEN

Charline was born and raised in Chardon.  Her father was a maple syrup producer and she was ‘brought up on syrup’.  Her mother worked in the bakery on Main Street, so Charline never missed the Maple Festival.

Charline joined the Maple Festival Board in 1973 and soon after, took over the duties of Festival Treasurer… and she’s been our Treasurer ever since !  Somewhere along the line, Charline’s duties expanded to include ‘Festival Office Coordinator’ where she schedules all the volunteers to cover the office hours from open to close over Festival week and weekend.

Besides her Festival activities, there is another organization close to Charline’s heart.  Charline has played the clarinet as a member of the Great Geauga County Fair Band ………for over 62 years !

In all her spare time, Charline enjoys traveling with her sister and spending time with her sons, Larry, Gary and Perry, and their families.

We dedicate the 2010 Geauga County Maple Festival in honor of Charline Heiden and her almost 40 years of dedication and service to the Festival and the Festival Board.  THANK YOU, Charline !  We love you !!

ALSO - Dedicated at the 2010 Maple Festival was a kettle - donated to our Historic Display

The Geauga County Maple Festival had a plaque made to honor the donation of this kettle in memory of Helen Grosik.  The kettle was donated to the Festival’s Historic Display by Mrs. Grosik’s family at the start of the Festival on Thursday afternoon.

The plaque reads:  This kettle was donated to the Geauga County Maple Festival in 2007 in memory of Helen Grosik.  According to local accounts, Lynn Hosford, a former Chardon resident and historian, recognized the kettle on the Grosik property many years ago.  Mr. Hosford told the Grosik family this kettle had been specially ordered and manufactured overseas, delivered to the New England area, and sent by train to Chardon to be part of the syrup-making demonstration during the early years of the Maple Festival

Michelle Piscopo, Festival Director, along with Festival President, JR Blanchard, and Historic Display Chairperson, Jerome Tvergyak on behalf of the Festival and the Festival Board ‘happily and gratefully accepted the contribution from the family in memory of Mrs. Grosik’.  One of the family members replied, ‘This is where she’d want it to be’.
